My first organizing gig was to help my Grandmother sort through 37 years of accumulation. Over the years her home had become a storage locker. Junk piled high, in some rooms floor to ceiling. Tasks felt overwhelming. Too many times she recalled buying a new item she knew she had but couldn’t find. In attempts to organize she would move clutter from one area to the next. Fed-up, we began our organizational extravaganza, dedicating twenty days to sort, unload and reorganize every cupboard, dresser, shelf and closet in every room. Nine truck loads to the dump, countless trips to the thrift-shop drop-off bin and a two day yard sale that filled her entire yard.
Years have passed and my Granny’s home remains organized. It was not that she was disorganized it was the build up from time past. Since then, my Gran has had major renovations and decorating done. Regular tasks like cleaning are much simpler. She just needed a little help getting things together.
